KG’s Blog Post #3 – 7/17/09
Hello comeback friends – day 3 of Blogamania via Kenneth John,
Quick note on the leg – not has painful today, which is like Xmas to me.
I’m extremely impressed by how many of my friends are insisting that they are going to slap me around the next time we tee it up. It’s great to see that it wasn’t just me hallucinating this month.
Now i must make a couple of irrelevant points…
It was just pointed out to me that i have shamed a Green genetic flaw. Few people know that my grandmother had a crooked toe which was passed onto me – i confess that i no longer have a crooked toe. On a morbid note, have you have wondered what they did with the leg that they cut off?
Did anyone notice the pants Daly and other pro are sporting these days? I’m here to let you know that pants similar to that were forbidden by Mr. Finchem a mere 7-8 years ago. i looked good in those babies too – now they’re legal.
Good to see Calc playing well at the British – maybe he can bring the claret jug to our fund raisers.
I know it doesn’t take much to excite me but i do enjoy read all the comments and words of encouragement that come back, so please keep them coming and i welcome all newcomers.
I’m not sure how this last piece will come off so excuse me if it’s corny…
For the first time since the accident saw a picture of Jeannie and Nip together and i cried forever – I’m crying now again. This part of this deal sucks.

Subj: Golf outing in CT.
I met Ken in Florida and had the pleasure of playing golf with him and his buddies at the Breakers West. He was terrific to my boyfriend Jim and I, putting up with my game and playing with us every day. We’ve been in touch with Ken via text and phone, but I wanted to contact the tournament organizers because I cannot afford to play in the golf tournament in CT but would be happy to volunteer in any way. I work in the golf business running a pro shop at at private club in NY and could possibly be of some help. Thank you for doing this for Ken.

Hi Ken-we are hard at work putting together the 9/28 tournament and are looking forward to seeing you. Some advise from an old fart-when you are back keep the good foot in the the cart just like the little sign on the cart says, Being an old dumb Cajun, I didn’t follow the instructions and broke my big toe, pulled the ligaments in my foot and sprained my ankle and that was 5 wks. ago. Swung the clubs for the first time yesterday even though foot is still swollen but have to get ready for member-guest next weekend.
So glad to hear the problem with left leg and foot are not too serious and will not require surgery. Believe it or not I still say my prayers every night and now have included a Ken Green portion – keep your chin up. We miss you.

Hey Ken,
I’m so sorry to hear about your tragic accident and I can’t imagine what you’re going thru. I think a strong faith in GOD will be your best support as you recover mentally and physically.
I was lucky enough to play with you, Mike Natale and the “tall softball umpire”… Tom Nessel?? At Richter back in the late 70’s.
You shot 70 with a penalty, water hazard, and you cut the dogleg on 18 which left you about 90 yards in.
I also remember when you went into sudden death at the club championship with Del Kinney.
I’ve been following on you on TV since you became pro and watched you play at the Westchester Classic a few times, working on the range with Calc.
And I also saw you at the Skins Game at Richter with Calc, Payne Stewart, I think and David Peoples.
Anyway, you have always been my golf idol and hope, someday to have a beer with you. (There are some descent bars in Brookfield).
I’ll pray for your recovery and strength to get well soon.

I am so sorry for your loss. I know you must miss Billy, Jeannie and Nip desperately. Our hearts ache for you. I know you’ve been down tough roads before so I have confidence in your ability to keep going now. I wish you nothing but the best in your recovery. I know it must be tough to deal with both your loss and your own injuries at the same time. Hang in there! There are so many people pulling and praying for you. I just wanted to say hi and to let you know that I have been thinking of you. Words cannot express how sorry I am for your loss. I am however grateful that you have a fantastic network of people around you and around the country to support you and pray for you.

Just wanted Ken to know that I’m praying daily for him and thank the Almighty for his continued improvement.
I hope that I can be a part of the calm in the midst of his storm at this time in his life with my encouragement and compassion.

Del Kinney and I worked together at WestConn and he started me in golf. I had a 36 handicap my first year in the Men’s Club. One day I hit a tee shot on five at Richter and it went right. However, very surprisingly, a ball landed simultaneous with mine next to the hole. I looked at you on the first green and you had the biggest grin! Your shot was – big surprise – better than mine! Get well, Ken, we are all rooting you on! We will not forget you!
Ken, so sorry to have read about what happened to you. I remember those days at PBJC as the
greatest ever. In fact if I remember correctly, you painted golf holes on the ceiling
and never did get your rent deposit back did you?! Damn the bad luck! You were a pretty
decent fairway wood player, and I did learn from you and Swann, switch to Top Flites on those long par 3 holes against the wind! Hang in there, my prayers go out to you, John
Hey Ken. Glad to see your spirits are up. Hearns told me about the website today so I wanted to drop you a note. Harry told me he was only kidding about the 7 shots a side. He only wants 6 and a Stella. Hope to see you at Breakers West…I’d like to pull a group together.

Hey Ken….glad to hear you’re on the road to recovery…we lived in Danbury when you originally went pro…you used to bowl with Bill Cerveniski, T-Bird, Paul Doto..I actually bowled against you…sad news…heard recently Bill Cerveniski is dying of cancer…good luck

I’m the amputee friend of Mark Libowitz working with him on the OverSpin putters. I’ve been an amputee for 10 years and was a 2 handicap before amputation and was able to get back to that. I travel around teaching wounded troops the game, it is the most meaningful part of my life. Stan Patterson is currently getting my new legs made ( I am now a double) to get me back up to speed. I also worked in the prosthetic field for 5 years. I would be happy to help in any way I can in your tournaments. I feel your tears in your loss, having lost my mom at 22 and my wife at 24. Over 30 years later they are still close but I have learned to appreciate the thoughts being so very clear because I loved so much. As Garth Brooks puts it, ‘I could have missed the pain bit I would have to have missed THE DANCE’. You will heal in every way and be as competitive if not more because of a different focus. Most of all, YOU ARE STILL YOU!!!!!!

From another Danbury guy – hang tough and get back to living life to its fullest soon. My brother in law had a similar accident, and just like you will, he worked his tail off to get back on his feet and move forward. As an aside, now he’s 10 strokes better than he was with two legs – hope the same goes for you!
Hey Ken – just saw the News Times article today to find the website, great idea as I check for updates on you every day but hadn’t seen anything recently. I just mailed you out a letter a couple of days ago to the address in Florida from the press release, hopefully it gets to you.
I am ordering my hat tonight!
