KG’s Blog Post #157 – 9/13/12 12:30am (“Ryder Cup Thoughts”)
Off to the spit out market I go. I’ve been so out of sorts lately that I didn’t even know that the picks were made for the Ryder Cup. I’m firmly against having 4 picks for the captain. A poor guy plays his ass off and finishes 9 or 10 and can get boned simply because the captain has friends or just doesn’t like the guy. Hunter Mahan has won twice this year and is not on the team – that’s stupid as can be, Forrest.
I stress again that’s it’s irrelevant who they pick because there is really very little difference between this guys. However, 2 wins should mean something for Christ sake. Dustin Johnson has hardly played and is a stud, but there are many rumors has to his time off and if he was hurt, then how do you know he is really healthy? Plus, that boy has stupid talent, but is quite honestly a border line putter has pros go and under the gun you want the guys who can putt best under the gun, not those who are streaky so to speak.
Jim Furyk was questionable to me also, another one of the nicer golfers to play the game, but his year has not been equal to Hunter’s. I’m going to rattle off the top 3 players on the team for being just real genuine people: Stricker, Zach Johnson, and Furyk. Now, the top 3 ego maniacs Tiger, Phil, and Tiger.
Why does a team need so many vice captains too? I do believe that if Love uses his brain and has the course set up for are strengths, it should be a cake walk. This is the only part that a captain is important for. Contrary to Zinger’s ideas that a captain’s decisions are crucial, they are pointless. How he sets the course up is the greatest contribution a captain can make. He should have decided a couple of months ago who he was pretty sure would be playing together has a team, and setting up the course for their strengths.
Like, we suck eggs in the alternate shot, so he needs to think, OK, here’s the plan. My best players may be right to left players so make sure the pins are tucked on the left side of all the greens. If they are bombers, figure out where there misses are and make the left rough not as bad as the right rough. Carries on tees is important. Stuff like this is the captain’s decision and he can influence things in that area that might give us an even better edge. It’s like it’s a big ass secret that no captain has ever said anything about how they are setting up the course and the media who loves to pick on everything never seems to say boo, but loves to analyze the partners like that means anything.
The Phil & Tiger team that Sutton picked was beat to death and they lost ‘cause they played like hogs on Easter a roll.
I’ve babbled too much. My son his getting married the first of October, and when I get back I’m going to start getting dogs and getting my plans rolling so be prepared for me to start hitting you guys up to help out, as I don’t have a whole lot of money, but I will spend every dime I have to save the life’s of as many dogs as I can.
I’m still waiting on Finchem’s donation, but I refuse to give up hope.
Ken
Why can’t all the top guys be on the team and never mind the picking? Picking who you want on the team is BS.
