KG’s Blog Post #38 – 2/14/10 12:05am

Hello Again,

Well, how many times does the big man give you a great tee/iron shot on the last hole after a miserable day? Sucks u right back in doesn’t he? That’s what he did to me on Friday in the one day event that I played. The winds were screaming more than Elizabeth Edwards.  I shot a one under from the whites. A damn good score when you throw in the 30+ winds.

Sadly, I found out that when you mix a lawyer-contractor and a butcher together, you wind up with a filet o shitogram. I hit it better, but was a Studolego on the greens. A little text chat with doc Kostis helped square things up.

Now, for the next 2 weeks I will play from the blues and see what happens as the upcoming Sunbelt Senior event [ March 2nd, Breakers West, WPB, see http://tinyurl.com/yayb7jk ] will play around 6,800 or so – compared to 6,200 I’ve been at. I must figure out how to get some distance quickly.

I must now admit to yet another setback or gain in my brain. Today was my worst day I’ve had emotionally since I woke in the hospital. I just could not stop thinking about all 4 of my loved ones.  It was just terrible. I found some pictures of Nip today and it just started the ball rolling.

After spending all day in bed, I semi-snapped out of it as I started to think about making you suffer through another one of my babble filled blogs. So you have suffered enough for the moment.

Be good my friends.  Oh, due to the Global Gore warming epidemic, the temps are going to be highs of low 60’s and windy, so golf will not be an option for a few days.  U north people r whacked.

Be good my friends,

I have been following your blog and I have to say…as much as you get down on yourself, you truly are an inspiration. I don’t know how I would handle everything you are going through. I am so glad to hear that depsite the great struggle, you really are trying…that’s more than I can say for a lot of people. Also, I love your sense of humor ;)

Keep up the good work, it all pays off in the end!

The wind was howling most of the weekend. One under is heading in the right direction! Looking forward to seeing you back out on the course!

Hang in there, Ken. I write a golf column (Golf Gab) for the Brunswick Beacon on the Carolina Coast. I’m following your blogs and plan to do a column about you. (check with Don Barnes, he knows me and my husband Gene, a former Sunbelt Player).

Folks like you inspire thousands of us each day. I have written many times about disabled golfers (a guy in wheelchair here at Brick Landing, a blind golfer, stroke victim, and cancer survivors whose hope of playing golf one day brought them through rugged surgeries and chemo.)

I’ll be in touch next month and we’ll talk. Please be comforted by knowing there are many, many people out there who care about you.

Don’t feel bad about extra distance, same swing, different stick! It is the middle of February and the snow is MELTING in Alaska – REALLY – 40 degrees above, suppose to be waaaayyy colder than that – what the hell is going on!

  7. Ken,

I have been following you since the days you wrote that Golf Digest article documenting the Masters in (I believe) 1989…it was great! I am a struggling mini-tour player that has battled depression and substance abuse for years…so in a way, I can somewhat relate to some of your struggles. I just want to tell you that you DEFINATELY still have fans out there…I am one of them. You have been going through times that I can’t imagine, and I just want to tell you I am proud of you for battling each day, and I have a great feeling you will make a huge impact on the world someday :) Hang in there buddy, I am rooting for you!! As always we’re hear to listen. Vent all you need. You’re so admirable for your perseverance despite everything life has thrown at you. You really are an inspiration, an example and the ebodiment of hope to people. Keep doing what you are doing, but you really need to stop being so harsh on yourself. I’ve never done it, but maybe you should consider meditation. Take care of yourself
